Do you know the animes of the Fate series? Have you heard of Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero, and others? In this article, we will take a look at this game franchise called FATE and its high-quality anime adaptations.
The game industry TypeMoon was founded in 1998 by the artist Takahashi Takeuchi and the writer Kinoko Nasu. If you are not familiar with the name, know that they are responsible for creating one of the most famous sagas of games and animes of all time.
The Fate saga initially took over computer screens. With games originally made for adults on the Windows, Playstation 2, and PS Vita platforms, it captivated the audience with its innovative and unique style of games at the time. It was the first game of the visual novel genre, released on January 30, 2004.
Two years later, on January 7, 2006, the franchise took over television screens. In total, there are eleven titles in the animated universe, and you will enjoy a bit of the world of each one below!

1. Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
The first anime of the Nasuverse franchise, Fate/Stay Night is an animated adaptation of the original game from the franchise in 2004. It is the starting point that introduces us to the protagonists and main elements of the series.
The story of Stay Night revolves around Emiya Shirou. A young student who, unintentionally, ends up participating in a tournament that could lead him to death if he is not careful. The championship, called Fifth Holy Grail War, attracts mages and warriors from various parts of the world.
The Holy Grail in the story is a powerful object that can grant the user their greatest wishes. In this tournament, young Shirou was about to die when he was saved by a beautiful girl who introduces herself as Saber.
The Unlimited Blade Works saga is a continuation – taking place between 2014 and 2015 – that explores the relationship between Shirou and other characters. In this part of the story, the young man is once again immersed in the chaotic environment of the Holy Grail War.
2. Fate/Zero
The story precedes the events of Stay Night and, consequently, Unlimited Blade Works.
The characters face off in the Fourth Holy Grail War. The Einzbern family is determined to win this war due to the history of failure in the last three.
To achieve this, they hire the most powerful of mages: Kiritsugu Emiya. The mage is a notorious assassin, and the character appears in the Stay Night series, being the one responsible for saving Shirou from a fire – which left him orphaned.
3. Fate/Apocrypha
Being a parallel universe to the events of Stay Night, Apocrypha brings a new theme to the Fate universe. The group Yggdmillennia announces that they are in possession of the Holy Grail and its removal from the Mage Association.
The narrative brings to light the war among the most powerful mages to recover the Holy Grail from the group that orchestrated its theft.
4. Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA | 2wei! | 3rei!! |
Another alternative universe that still brings the Holy Grail War as the theme of the narrative.
Kiritsugu and Irisviel prevent the ritual of the Holy Grail War from starting. The two seal the magical abilities of their daughter Illya and her memories up to that moment.
Shirou appears in the middle of the story. Still being the adopted son of Kiritsugu. The young man and his half-sister Illya grow up together and know nothing about magic. In the plot, the parents are traveling, and their guardians are Sella and Leysritt.
However, all this pacifism comes to an end when the fragments of the Class Cards – remnants of the Holy Grail War – appear in the city.
The 2wei! series narrates the story of Kuro, a girl identical to Illya – except for the visual traits. She emerges due to the seal of Kiritsugu.
The saga continues in the subtitle 3rei!! where Miyu is captured by the new antagonists. The events take place shortly after the end of 2wei!.
5. Fate/Extra Last Encore
With the concept of Holy Grail War completely different from what was presented in the Stay Night saga, Last Encore brings a dark approach to the Fate saga.
The plot of the war is replaced by the Moon Cell which uses the Holy Grail War to collect data. The events take place in the year 3020 A.D. and only one hundred thousand people inhabit the Earth.
6. Fate/Grand Order – The Absolute Demon Battlefront Babylonia
Being an adaptation of the game Fate Grand Order, the anime is being considered for release on screens in 2019. Little is known about the main plot of the film, but what we do know is that it will take place in ancient times, following the structure of the Babylonia arc.
The work of the studios Clover will focus on the seventh order of the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia in the year 2655 B.C., a time when humans separated from the gods.
However, still without a defined release date, the adaptation promises to continue the franchise.
